We were lucky enough to be able to stay in a stunning location on the Yorke Peninsula, SA with friends from my childhood. Dorothy and Robert lived across the road with three children very close in age to our crew so we really spent our middle childhood into our early teens living very much in one another's pockets. As the years passed and the families spread over Australia and the world this connection remains. When we left Adelaide in 1995 they had just bought 100 acres of pristine sand dunes. They spent 20 years camping and slowly building their dream beach house and it was wonderful to see it. They have fun on the dunes with motor bikes etc but they respect this special place by sticking strictly to established tracks and they are rewarded with a truly remarkable space to enjoy. Thanks Dorothy and Robert for sharing it with us!
The kids were kept busy on the beach, with their dog and on their various dune vehicles (marvelous fun - I had a ride too!). Inside Dorothy has a range of puzzles and Robert has kept lots of the kids' soft toys but what kept everyone most occupied was sewing. Dorothy is a quilter-extrodinaire and she gave the kids fabric scraps and other tools of the trade along with her guidance. They have been sewing little pillows and pockets in the car for the last couple of days!
On the way out of town I had to have a walk along the beach at Black Point. Lots of special memories there from many summers with Sarah and her beautiful family. We waved at Pine Point for Ben too!
