An Ode to Melbourne

A love of frost and eucalyptus

Wide sky and not much rain

Shale soil and chooks a-clucking

is running in my veins

Strong love of hot dry summers

Mild love of crisp dark mornings

I know and I do share it

But variety is my calling

I love a bustling city

A land of funky lanes

Of efficient green trams

It’s sun but not it’s rains

I love her stylish ladies

I love her well groomed gents

Her energy and elegance

Melbourne is for me!

Stark lines of modern buildings

The Yarra reflects the moon

Old lanes made new with street art

The rush and noise of noon

Stately structures sit adjacent

Steel and glass do shine

Art, sculpture everywhere

A culture strong and fine

A footy loving country!

A bit obsessed one has to say

But a visible social conscience

So we’ll forgive their weakness hey?

Though earth holds many splendours

Wherever I may die

Melbourne will be one of several places

To which my homing thoughts will fly!
